building enduring partnerships

Our approach is proactive: We know your business, and often your family, and we project and plan to your best advantage. Our firm’s culture is built on collaboration, not hierarchy—we make use of one another’s experience and knowledge every single day. We continually update our technology to ensure team members have secure access to the information they need to answer your questions. We encourage a healthy work-life balance and it all adds up: Less stress equals sharper, more productive staff. We know our employees are happy because they stay with us for years and decades.

Passionate Accounting Professionals

Being our clients’ best advocate since 1932.

In 1932, Al Calegari was working for a regional accounting firm that needed to reduce its payroll. To make ends meet, the company suggested that Al and a fellow CPA share one salary. Since Al and his wife had two children and the other man had a larger family, Al suggested they give his colleague the full-time position and said he would find other work.

When a former client of Al‘s heard this news, he suggested a trade: Al’s accounting services for office space in downtown San Francisco. Other former clients also wanted to retain Al's services and soon his business was thriving. Al founded his new firm with three guiding principles which he followed until his retirement in 1979.
1. Be your client’s best advocate.
2. Set the standard for quality service.
3. Deliver that service ahead of time.

In 1942, Al volunteered to serve his country in World War II as an auditor for the U.S. Army. When he returned three years later at the end war, he found all of his clients ready to resume their relationships with him. In 1965, Al’s son Greg joined his father and the two began to bring in other top professionals like George Morris, who joined the firm as a partner in 1970.

Today, C+M is one of the largest local CPA firms in the greater San Francisco area. We employ more than 50 professionals, 90% of whom are CPAs with an average of more than five years of Big 4 tax accounting experience. Just like when Al founded the firm 92+ years ago when you work with C+M, you can rest assured that you will receive timely service from the people best suited to provide it.

After talking to large marketing firms and small freelancers we found the perfect person to design the new logo and he happens to be a long-time client of C+M. Kit Hinrichs, a resident of San Francisco, served as principal in several design offices in New York and San Francisco. Before opening Studio Hinrichs in San Francisco in 2009 he was a partner in Pentagram, an international design consultancy. His design experience incorporates a wide range of projects, including corporate communications, promotion, packaging, editorial, and exhibition design. Kit has executed branding projects for iconic local institutions such as California Academy of Sciences, the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge, Fort Mason Center, the Walt Disney Museum and the SF Giants Enterprises.
